Party pieces – smart vs. casual

The Christmas party, famed for it’s photocopied arses, slagging off the boss directly to his face after a skinful of beers and generally waking up the next morning wondering why Jagerbombs at closing time seemed like such a good idea.

Being a small knit team of lads, we don’t have such problems here – well maybe with the Jagerbombs – but when it comes to what to wear, we can be worse than a bunch of women on a hen do.

Do you go all casual with a t-shirt and pair of Edwin‘s turned out with the Gourmet trainers or do you dress it up a bit with an Our Legacy shirt, a pair of YMC chinos and some Grenson brogues?

Either way, here are a few of our favourite pieces that will no doubt be suffering from a few kebab stains come the morning after…

Masters of bags

In a world that is slowly morphing into some kind of bland shadow of its regurgitated self, we like to think here at Peggs & son we still offer you the chance to create a little bit of individualism; the opportunity to walk down the street as a purveyor of exceptions rather than norms. We also like to think that by stocking brands such as Masterpiece bags, you really can be a little bit different to everyone else.

From classic canvas backpacks with suede paneling to extravagant prints polished off with fine leather fastenings and linings, the Japanese brand have been making wonderfully crafted bags since the early 90’s, creating a place in the market that is yet to be surpassed.

Numbers on these bags are incredibly limited – like everything we stock to be honest – and for this reason, there will be little to no chance you’ll see anyone else crashing your party with the same bag on their shoulders. Here’s to the individual in us all.

FOLK: The Loyal Friend

It seems an age since we last talked about one of our longest standing, and may we say, best brands, so we thought it was about time we gave FOLK the attention it deserves.

With a fine array of pieces, from the chunky knits to the quintessential quirkiness of knitted pocked shirts that have become an integral part of the Folk DNA, we think you will agree with us once again that the current A/W’12 collection cements Folks reputation as one of the best brands to come out of the British Isles in the past decade.

As well as the chunky knits and shirts there are the classic Blockless tees and Mac, a great choice of shirts and heavy knit cardis.

Bellerose

It’s always great to see new brands coming into store and one that is proving very popular with the Peggs and son punter is Belgium brand Bellerose.

With a mix of classic and contemporary pieces, the brand which started life in 1989, has hit a nerve with the Peggs & son clientele and has been winging it’s way out of the door with merry abandonment.

We do however still have some great pieces still in stock so if you are perusing the wonders of the web or enjoying a day by the seaside, be sure to check it out.

Personal Portrait

You can tell what kind of person Bobby Mills is simply by looking at his amazing photography; intelligent, thoughtful and a young man who understands the importance of traditional values.

Shooting on medium format film, rather than digital, Bobby says gives him the opportunity to actually deconstruct and visualise each shot, rather than clicking away randomly and hoping one of the plethora of shots comes out accordingly.

Currently a practicing photographer from Sussex Bobby tells us: “I photograph most things with the intent to suggest some kind of beauty, I don’t necessarily know what I’m looking for, but my photographs convey a sense of what I find.

“My work is made on film for its subtle clarity, tones and crafted process. There is a feeling indescribably pleasing whilst looking through the ground glass screen.”

We were fortunate enough to have him take some pictures of the store and we think you’ll agree, they’re pretty damn good.
